Maple syrup diet
In the maple syrup diet, all meals are replaced by a drink consisting of:
2 tablespoons of maple syrup
2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon chilli powder or ginger powder (to improve metabolism)
300 ml hot or cold water
Whisk the ingredients together until smooth. Drink 6 to 12 glasses (2 to 4 litres) of this drink throughout the day. No other foods should be consumed during the maple syrup diet. If necessary, you can drink a glass of mint tea or water. The diet is followed for 10 days, but can be shortened to 6-7 days if difficulties arise.
The diet is extremely important in order not to gain back the lost kilos and not to worsen the condition of the digestive system.
Start with easily digestible foods (fruit and fruit juices, vegetable soups, raw or steamed vegetables, soya products) in small portions.
Avoid sugar and sugary products, red meat, fried foods and pasta as well as alcohol. They put a strain on the digestive system, slow down the metabolism and lead to fat accumulation.
Important: If you suffer from a chronic illness, you should consult a doctor before starting the diet!
